Our Library's Rich History

Discover the legacy of the Young Men's Association and its impact on our community since 1957.

Formed by a group of educated young men with a shared vision and dedication, YMA has played a vital role not only as a library but as a hub of social engagement and cultural exchange.

Library History

In 1957, at a time when there were no reading rooms in our area, a group of educated young men from Thekkil came together with a spirit of sacrifice to form what we now know as YMA (Young Men's Association). Many dedicated individuals, including Dr. Ahmadali and T.K. Abdul Khader Kalluvalla Anthukayicha, contributed to its establishment through their active sacrifices.

The library was not just a symbol of the locality but also a marker of the social life of those who lived there, and YMA held that significant role. In this regard, the Young Men's Association became an important public space for the residents of Thekkil.

However, by the early 1980s, the migration of young people abroad had a severe impact on our library. Today, the changing attitudes toward reading have also brought the need for evolution to our library.
